Calf Implant

How is the Calf Implant performed?

Calf implants can be used to add mass and definition to the muscles of the lower leg, which will drastically improve the appearance of the calves. For those who feel their calves would look better and more proportionate with more volume and definition, calf implants may be the answer.

The calf raise is usually performed as an outpatient procedure that takes about an hour. During the procedure, an incision is made in a natural fold behind the knee. The surgeon then creates a bag of sufficient size to place the calf implants, which can be placed on the upper or outer leg. In this area, made up of muscle and fat, scar tissue will form to help keep the implant in place. The incision is closed with sutures, and a dressing is placed to reduce swelling and discomfort. Although it is possible to resume normal activities within a few days after surgery, vigorous physical activities should be postponed for approximately six months.

Many patients who undergo calf implants report an increase in self-confidence after the procedure, and many may wear garments (e.g. shorts and bathing suits) that they would otherwise be uncomfortable with.
